how many gallons of water is recomended for a texas map turtle?
well……. i’m turning 12 and for my birthday i wanted a turtle or a tortoise. I love both, and they are my favorite kind of animals. If you know if they can go in a ten gallon tank because that’s what I have, then that would be great! thanks!

As mentioned, 10 gallons of water per inch of carapace (top shell) length, and expect to spend about $200 on a proper setup (heat lamp, filter, UVB lighting, etc., etc.)
You’ll do better getting a book on the care and maintenance of the species before getting the turtle, and remember, you can take your time and be sure of what you’re doing… if you do it right, you’ll have a pet for about 30 years… when you get into something like that it’s best to be prepared for it beforehand so you don’t need to come back asking what’s wrong with your turtle because you’ve been feeding an improper diet or didn’t have any UV lighting or any number of other things that can be completely avoided by simply reading up on what the animal needs before getting it.
